Thomas M. Gehring

The author of FAST studied social psychology and psychopathology at the University of Zurich followed by a doctorate in the field of systemic family therapy. He then completed training courses in clinical psychology and psychotherapy in Switzerland, Germany and Italy. From 1985 to 1988 he was a visiting scholar at Stanford University, Department of Psychology and The Stanford Center for the Study of Families, Children, and Youth. After his return to the University of Zurich he was engaged in clinical and supervisory activities in psychiatric, pediatric and judicial institutions. Additionally, he served as a national and international expert for family psychology and public health. Prof. Gehring also taught and supervised post-graduate students from various disciplines at the Universities of Zürich, Bern, Lausanne and Basel. Between 1997 and 2003 he was Head of the Unit of Methodology and Evaluation at the Institute of Social and Preventive Medicine, University Hospital Zurich. Subsequently, from 2004 to 2018 he held the position as Chief Psychologist of the Swiss Armed Forces Joint Staff.
